Re: “It Ain’t as Easy as It Looks”

School District Supt. Dave LaRose was in the middle of explaining why this has been a quieter than expected summer regarding improvement projects to be paid for by last year’s $107M bond measure.

“Part of the holdup,” said Mr. LaRose, “has been being clear on identifying the projects, the scope of the projects, and then shifting the language from summer projects to Phase One.

“Most of what we have identified as an initial priority isn’t maybe, per se, a priority as much as it is a possibility.

“It’s a project,” said Mr. LaRose, “and we know it is something we need to do.

“It may not necessarily have the sense of urgency that some other projects have. But it can be done without (approval from the state Dept. of Architecture) and that scope of work.

“With it being a Phase One concept, the shifting in the language around that, and the imagery around that is that it is not something that only will be done in June, July and August.

“These are projects that can be done, evening projects, weekend projects, they are projects that can be done without displacing students,” Mr. LaRose said.

  1. I thought voters were told during the bond’s campaign that the first priorities were set and the district was just waiting to put shovels in the ground. Didn’t the board even pass a resolution making reserve money available to get those summer projects started? It sounds like to me, the district is still working on setting these priorities. With the summer time-frame for these projects having elapsed, now the district is forced to do them during off-hour and weekends during the school year; possibly at much higher costs.
