Now the drought feels wetly real.

On the same day that the Golden State Water Co. (http://www.gswater.com/stage1/),

after a lengthy wait, won state permission to implement its list of water conservation methods, the City Council last evening unanimously approved its Level 2 outdoor watering restrictions.

Effective immediately, Culver City residents whose address ends in an odd number, are permitted to water on Tuesdays and Saturdays, between the hours of 7 in the evening and 8 in the morning.

For those whose address ends in an even number, the watering schedule, until further notice, is Wednesdays and Sundays, only between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Otherwise, said Charles Herbertson, the Public Works Director, City Hall does not have any requirements of individual residents, aside from common sense.

In spite of the majestic gesticulating, arm-waving and chatter that has streamed down the state from Sacramento since early spring, conforming to new drought rules does not figure to cause more than a hiccup of inconvenience to individual residents

Mr. Herbertson’s optimism is “based on the recent news that we (in Culver City and Los Angeles) seem to be meeting our water reduction goal. At least for the month of May we did.

“If that trend continues,” he said, “it won’t be necessary for Golden State to go to the next stage of their plan, which would encompass adding surcharges to bills where people have exceeded their allocation.”

Just yesterday, Gov. Brown signed a bill that forbids communities from fining residents for unsightly brown lawns during the drought.
