No one has said so publicly yet, but wasn’t interim Principal Dr. Lisa Cooper the obvious choice to lead Culver City High School for the next number of years?

Realistically, who could have matched Dr. Cooper’s nine years of intimate knowledge of the school system, campus, students, parent community, her popularity, her professionalism, her stature?

Why rewind the clock by 25 steps?

Why start over with a new person who would require months, at least, to familiarize himself/herself with the nuances and mores of the School District?

Take the word of Asst. Supt. Leslie Lockhart. Her first words were, “Isn’t this good news?

“She is truly committed to the students and staff of Culver City High School. All aspects of the school.

“She has the benefit of being there for nine years. She is familiar with the counseling aspects. She was an assistant principal. She knows the staff.  She knows the parents, the community,” said Ms. Lockhart.

“She knows the needs of the community as they relate to the high school. She also is going to be the mom of a high schooler (daughter Heaven will be on campus in August).”

Dr. Cooper’s smooth transition into the interim post, when Principal Dr. Dylan Farris left  two months into the new term) was a significant factor in making her the No. 1 choice.

“She came into the position of interim with such – I keep using ‘commitment’ because she is so committed to the school,” Ms. Lockhart said. “She has such a great knowledge of what already was taking place at the school, all the good things they are doing.

“She came in with such grace, calmness and confidence not only in the teams, but in the staff at the high school, which is really important,” Ms. Lockhart said.

The School Board will confirm Dr. Cooper at Tuesday evening’s 7 o’clock meeting at the District headquarters.
