Clarke’s 3 Reasons for All Voting by Mail

How do you feel about voting by mail?

It is the rage in numerous communities where it has spiked voter turnout.

While granting that it is a hugely aroused community, Santa Monica adopted this method years ago, and the turnouts have rewarded this decision.

Is it Culver City’s turn to join the trend?

Tracing the paternity of an all-mail vote in Culver City, the notion originated nine years ago with the Charter Revision Committee.

The concept has come to the fore now because Councilman Jim Clarke, a strong proponent, successfully urged his mates to sit down and study it before any members grow older.

Mr. Clarke lists three reasons for his advocacy:

“Surveys have shown that voting by mail increases turnout at the local elections, not so much for other elections.

“Secondly, it is a lot cheaper to be able to administer.

“Third, it is harder and harder to recruit poll workers, and therefore you have polling places that are farther and farther apart,” Mr. Clarke said.
