A precise re-opening date still is not available for the Culver City Dog Park, closed since Sept. 28, due to the seepage of liquid and the presence of low concentrations of methane gas, which, according to the city’s outside consultants, do not pose a risk to public health or safety.

City Hall previously posted notices to the community on Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 10, and issued a press release on Nov. 18.

Work undertaken by the Plains Exploration & Production Co., PXP, on repairing the abandoned well at the Dog Park is nearly complete.

However, it was determined that a second well in the Dog Park also requires repair work to prevent possible future problems.

As such, the city and PXP have agreed to expand the repair work to address repairs to this second well.

PXP reports that, barring unforeseen circumstances, work on the second well is expected to be complete in early January. Once approved by the state Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources, indicating the Dog Park is safe for canine and human use, and the Dog Park is restored, the city will announce the re-opening of the Boneyard.
