I Am Waiting to Hear Back from the School District

Another interlude in my life that, well, makes me stroke my chin and go “Hmmm.”

Here is a letter I received last week:

October 27, 2010

On behalf of the Culver City Unified School District, I want to thank you for your interest in applying for the Citizens’ Oversight Committee. I am sorry to inform you that you were not selected to serve on the committee.

The decision was difficult because of the high level of qualified and competitive applicants. On Tuesday, October 12, 2010, the Board of Education voted publicly on each of the candidates, and they took formal action on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, to appoint five candidates to the Citizens’ Oversight Committee.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Culver City Unified School District, it schools, and especially, the students.

Sincerely

My response:

Dear Superintendent Jaffe and School Board,

I have received your letter informing me of the results of the Measure EE Oversight Committee. I am sure these fine outstanding citizens have great credentials not unlike the elected officials who have ruined our country and are incapable of resolving basic issues that are confronting our children’s educational future.

Take the Culver City School Board for example. The makeup of the Board has not changed from year to year. Esquires, Ph.Ds, Master’s.

With all that firepower, why are the results the same?

A dud.

I guess you need more of the same on the Advisory Committee. I am sure there would have not been a need for one or two informed persons.

Aware of the issues.

No can do.

I request that since it was a public meeting that you publish the results and note how many people were present.

Was the voting night published or announced in any news outlet, including the e-CCUSD news?

Since they are overseeing public funds, I want all of the oversight candidates and their so-called “qualifications” to be published in all news outlets in Culver City.

And I want the voting tally presented (5 to 0, 3 to 2 or 4 to 1). Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

(Signed)

Gary Abrams
