Re “Gang Member Charged with Killing Bilodeau, January of ’09, at Fire Station Site

In his first outing since being charged last month with the murder of a City Hall contracting consultant last year, Myron Deshaun Grant, already incarcerated for another crime, looked nervous, even scared, at his arraignment this morning at the Airport Courthouse.

Given the stack of convictions he already has logged at a fairly early age, that may have been surprising.

He kept glancing, hopefully, over his slight shoulder in search of a familiar face in the courtroom of Judge Keith Schwartz.

Finding none, he returned his attention to the judge and his public defender, Michael Russo.

Mr. Russo asked for a six-week continuance of his client’s arraignment on the grounds that he has between 8,000 and 10,000 pages on the case to familiarize himself with.

Judge Schwartz lightly cracked that Mr. Russo has successfully passed a popular speed-reading course. Therefore, he should be prepared by his next hearing, Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Smallish and dressed in jailhouse orange and blue, the 25-year-old Mr. Grant looked far less fearsome than the gang member he is or used to be.

He already has done time for three prior felonies, and now faces a murder-with-special-circumstances-attached charge for allegedly killing Paul Bilodeau in a desolate setting on the evening of Jan. 2, ’09.

Mr. Bilodeau, hired by City Hall to supervise construction of Fire Station No. 3 on Bristol Parkway, Fox Hills, was working alone, the day after New Year’s, in the trailer on the building site, distant from any sign of life or further light.

According to the District Attorney, Mr. Grant, evidently acting alone, spotted the lighting and a single figure inside the trailer. They may have been the only two persons for hundreds of yards. Mr. Grant allegedly sought to rob the 45-year-old Mr. Bilodeau before supposedly committing the murder.
