The Culver Crest Neighborhood Assn.’s meeting last night with oil field expert Dr. Tom Williams was extremely informative, and it was well-attended.

The room was packed with about 50 persons from numerous neighborhoods, including the other side of the Baldwin Hills.

Among the candidates for political office who spoke, Reggie Jones-Sawyer, a Democrat running for the state Assembly seat soon to be vacated by Karen Bass, said the Inglewood Oil Field definitely needs an environmental impact report.

This also is the position of the lawsuit filed by the Citizens Coalition for a Safe Community against PXP, the Plains Exploration & Production Co.

It is also what Dr. Williams advocates. He refers to it as a Programmatic EIR. Basically, in order to mitigate, all present conditions need to be known. (How else can you mitigate if you do not know the condition of the land?)

Dr. Williams was engaging. As a background, he spoke anecdotally of his experiences. His is an impressive resume, everything from supervising building the Arabian Canal in Dubai to much work in this part of the world.

Bottom line: Of course the oil field can be made safe. To achieve that objective, see he information below, which Dr. Williams distributed in the form of handouts.
