WASHINGTON, D.C. — The late Lt. Curt Massey of the Culver City Police Dept. is being honored today in the nation’s capital.

In recognition of National Police Day, designated by President Obama in the midst of National Police Week, 116 officers from throughout the country who died in the line of duty, are being memorialized this afternoon, among them, Lt. Massey.
A contingent of Culver City officers is here to participate in events and salute their former colleague.
Lt. Massey, married and the father of three young children, was killed on Jan. 28, 2009, in a pre-dawn head-on collision with a drunk driver who was traveling the wrong way on the Santa Monica Freeway.
Lt. Massey’s name will be inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument.
His name will join those of 18,983 fallen officers.
A candlelight vigil and memorial ceremony will commemorate each officer who was killed.
The monument was dedicated 19 years ago.
