If it would be a mistake to lift the ban on gays in the military because we are at war, we just might not be involved in that unjust conflict if the short-sighted and homophobic brass hadn't discharged nearly 60 Arab linguists under that policy since its inception.
These highly-qualified and desperately-needed translators could have employed their skills to provide much better intelligence about WMDs and possibly even planning of the attack on the World Trade Center.
What a regrettable, self-defeating and disastrous course of action it has proved to be.
