The President, It Says Here, Is Embarrassed to Toot America’s Horn

If you are a lady, you should be thankful you are not married to the pundit Marc Ambiner (the atlantic.com). With his imaginative, circularly abstract reasoning, you never would have a chance to win a disagreement. By his standard, he cannot be wrong.

He makes an assertion, and you have the option of agreeing or agreeing. He has determined, pre-emptively, evidence is not required.

On these grounds, the President, like one of his heroes, FDR, can keep getting re-elected until the end of his life.

With defenders like Mr. Ambiner, President Obama can stand in the center of a hurricane and not get damp.

The appalling, even embarrassing lack of workaday schoolboy pride in America, his homeland, has been one of the running criticisms against Swish. The probably unprecedented charge has clung to his slippery Oneness ever since he became the most famous groundhog to emerge from earthly obscurity on a February day three years ago.

Mr. Ambiner, one of the leading pundits on the left, declares a facile, numbingly vague, ambivalent explanation for the President’s gee-shucks refusal to say aloud, “America is the greatest.”

As you know, Swish has a peculiar way of displaying his undying affection for his homeland by girdling the globe and proclaiming America’s sins at each stop, loudly, lengthily.

Imagine a night out with your spouse and another couple. Your spouse monopolizes the conversation, describing in exquisite detail 150 of your worst failings. Helpfully, she adds that this only is a partial list.

After Swish’s first State of My Union speech last night, Mr. Ambiner, memorably, wrote this fact-free defense:

“Mr. Obama has been uncomfortable with calling America the greatest country in the world – not because he doesn’t believe it, but because he has a subtle view of what this greatness entails. Usually, he means to suggest that our strength derives from our self-corrective capacity, rather than from some Providential or historical source.”

Typical of the smoky locution that has been streaming from the Obama White House for the past 12 months, this audacious, groundless defense of the President asks us to accept the contention on faith, without a nick of evidence, just because.

It’s Different When It Is Personal

Would that this arrogant, immature, spoiled child of privilege possessed the same reluctance about tirelessly declaring himself No. 1.

He is uncomfortable? This is more astonishing than surprising. It fits his pattern of odd worldly behavior like a hand-stitched glove.

The same way we were asked to take it on faith that Swish Obama was the most cerebral President ever to enter the White House. No evidence. Columbia University says Mr. Obama’s grades are unavailable.

In different words, the President is not the person we were told he was.

The claim is stunning.

The exalted leader of the free world, the man clearly (though not overwhelmingly) elected President of the United States 15 months ago, at a juncture of historical turmoil, cannot bring himself to say that America is No. 1 in the world, that America is the most desirable, freest land in the history of the world.

Because he does not wish to embarrass his Muslim brethren?

Remember Mad Michelle’s gaffe a couple summers back? She said, unmistakably, before a campaign crowd, that the first time she was proud to be an American was the day her husband became a finalist for President of the United States. What a sweet gal. She tried to walk back her words. But Her Madness quit trying when she was trapped by the ubiquitous electronic media.

Maybe when this off-tune couple leaves the White House, they will reprise the old ‘60s television series “Mission Impossible.” They will remove their masks at the end to reveal their still mysterious identities.
