New Animal Services Officer Is on Deck

Good news this afternoon for two City Councilmen and community activists who were fretting last month when Culver City’s first animal services officer abruptly resigned.

Police Chief Don Pedersen, in charge of the hiring, said he is close to naming a replacement for Stephanie Yarbro, possibly by mid-February. The next officer actually was the No. 1 choice last year when Ms. Yarbro was hired, but was unable to accept the position for professional reasons.

In Ms. Yarbro’s first post-college employment, she found the work not to her taste three months along following three months of Police Dept. training.

Her putative successor, also a young woman, is more experienced and would earn the same salary, $47,829.60.

When Ms. Yarbro’s unanticipated departure was discussed at a City Council meeting last month, both Vice Mayor Chris Armenta and colleague Gary Silbiger were deeply worried that Culver City animals and pet owners would be at a strong disadvantage in the interim.

Neither expected a replacement to be selected so swiftly.
