From the Old to the New

As the end of 2009 approaches, I am more excited than ever to cross off items from my to-do list… especially when they involve completing some task that has been hanging over my head for weeks… or months.

I agree completely with Nicholas Pollak’s latest column about change being within my reach. As I have used the visualization technique he recommends with great success over the past few years, I need say no more. (Read the 12/28 “Inside My Head” column for wonderful insights about visualizing to create one’s reality.)

Clearing Out the Old

In addition to his words, I also strongly suggest cleaning out one’s “closets” as a part of this New Year’s resolution process.

I know I have confessed in prior columns to my secret love for cleaning… or shall I say, clearing.

I make this distinction because I do not relish the constant rituals of cleaning my bathroom or kitchen, or keeping up with my laundry. Beyond this level of maintaining order, however, there is a wonderful – and healing – process that occurs when I tackle that closet, drawer or car trunk that has been neglected for months.

As I clear out the clutter in my physical (or mental) space, I feel more readily able to see and plan for my future.

I look forward to an incredible 2010. First, however, it is time for me to get back to work to completing all the items in my “2009 list.”

Happy New Year, everyone.
