Re “Violin and His Reasoning Are Whacked by a Duty-Bound 27-Year-Old

To the editor and to readers:

This is what it's all about.

Thank you, Ron Robertson.

Well, I'm not going to debate you in the newspaper.

My wish is not to belittle you or humble you or any other negative garbage.

I wouldn't waste “newsprint” like that.

But, you do need a little direction, Mr. Robertson.

If yours is the only critical letter, then, in a way, I have won.

I really did.

That, I didn't expect.

I've won some and lost some, just like everyone else.

Just like everyone else, some days I feel better, and some, not as well.

I compliment you on some of your suppositions. They were right.

Even my children and grand children received all of their education (including their degrees, in public schools, i.e., Northridge).

I earned my degree attending both public and private schools.

My early education was, also, in a private school.

I feel fortunate and grateful for most of my life. I have every right to feel both.

And I've made my mistakes.

I'm a full three times older than you are.

It would be wrong of me, and I recognize that fact where you do not, to criticize you, as I do not know you.

But, you do not respect me as I do you. Pity.

(First, walk in my shoes. Then make your comments.)

Sadly, you did make several errors. The first and most glaring is, I do live in a nice section of Culver City, but all of Culver City is nice.

As for Prop. 13, isn't everyone protected?

I do not receive more “services” from the city than anyone else.

I don't understand the relevance of Martin Niemoller's quote that you cited.

You have a lot to learn, young man.

I hope you are spared some of the pain that I have experienced. No pity there, however, as I am whole, still here, and full of vigor.

I wish the same for you.

Surely, you don't know what I have contributed to my community. Do you?

Obviously, you do not know the history of Social Security or you would not have made your criticism?

A big disappointment (to me).

Walk down many strange streets, come back and then criticize. I wish you well, Mr. Robertson.

• PCS, (Professional Children's School, NYC. See story in the Smithsonian many years ago). You'll have to find it. Sadly, some things in my life, (that copy of the magazine, for one) have gone by the wayside.
