Ted Kennedy’s peccadilloes
For most, career destructive
Speaking of them cruel
But more so, quite instructive
Was it just good luck
Letting chips fall where they may
Or was it father’s fortune
Allowed our Ted to play
Accomplishments in Senate
Viewed by some, prodigious
This, in spite of limits
Imposed, by the religious
Known as compromiser
Reached across the aisle
Was it us he sold out
With his liberal style
The art as practiced in DC
Gives us all short shrift
They respond to money
We are forced to thrift
Protection of the system
He practiced as he would
He also reached constituents
Provided, as he could
Ted’s missteps and blunders
Made us look, right to the source
Are the good things he attempted
Driven by remorse
In the end his moral compass
As we can see, and yes, intuit
Attachment to cliché’
“Bridge we’ll cross, when we come to it”
