With the Culver City-based Backlot Film Festival moving from spring to autumn for the first time this year, founder Ross Hawkins has announced that $5 from every Festival pass and Gala Reception picket will go directly to Culver City High School’s  Academy of Visual and Performing Arts program.

The  festival starts next week, running from Wednesday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 10, at the  Vets Auditorium.

The four days of film screenings — features, shorts, fiction, documentary, films in progress, and student films —will  include the AVPA’s “The Harry Hastings Method,” on Opening Night.

The event is topped off by a Gala Reception on Saturday night, honoring screen legend Mickey Rooney and Culver City’s own Syd Kronenthal.

The Gala Reception and Awards will get under way at 6:30 p.m.

The AVPA Chamber Singers, directed by Lisa Michel, and vocal soloists, will perform songs from legendary Hollywood movies, including “Singin’ in the Rain” (AVPA’s  Spring  Musical directed by AVPA Co-Director and Music Director Dr. Tony Spano), and “How About You?” from “Babes on Broadway,” starring the Gala’s honoree, Mickey Rooney.
Festival passes for all four days are priced at $100, $80 for seniors and students.
Tickets for the Gala Reception are pegged at $25, and $20 for seniors and students.
