Hello again,
We've referred several times to a “second raise” that went only to administrative employees a few years ago. Here's the story:
In June 2006, the Culver City Federation of Teachers bargained a 5 percent salary increase for Culver City teachers.
CCUSD then passed that increase on to its classified employees and management employees.
That practice of giving all employees the same increase has been in place since the 1970s.
CCUSD THEN GAVE ONE GROUP —MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES — A SECOND RAISE.
Some of those increases were:
Superintendent, 25 percent
Assistant Superintendent/Business, 13.9 percent
Assistant Superintendent/HR, 7.3 percent
Assistant Superintendent/Ed Services, 7.3 percent
Director, Pupil Services, 9.9 percent
Director, Special Projects, 2.7 percent
Director, Child Development, 43.8 percent
Director, Information Technology, 9.7 percent
Director, Maintenance, 7.7 percent
Director, Fiscal Services, 7.7 percent
Director, Security, 34.4 percent
Director, Purchasing, 29.4 percent.
Maintaining these higher management salaries costs CCUSD about $200,000 each year.
Since the raises were retroactive to July 1, 2005, CCUSD has spent about $800,000 so far on these increases for administrative employees.
What could we do with $800,000 today?
As CCUSD begins discussions with employee unions about salary reductions, it only seems fair that this second raise be rescinded before teachers and classified employees, who didn't get that second raise, are asked to take a cut.
