Veteran educator Eileen Carroll,  most recently  in La  Quinta, has been introduced  as the new principal of Farragut Elementary School.

Ms. Carroll will succeed Barbara Brown who retired this month.

For the past two years, Ms. Carroll has been Director of State and Federal Programs at Desert Sands Unified School District.

In that position, she coordinated categorical programs and assisted school sites in writing and monitoring the Single Plan for Student Achievement.

Previously, Ms. Carroll spent a total of 13 years as principal of Martin Van Buren Elementary School in the Desert Sands District and at Highland Ranch School in the Poway Unified School District in San Diego.

As principal, she supervised and evaluated school personnel, coordinated site-based staff development and supervised and assessed the effectiveness of instructional programs.

When  Ms. Carroll was the   principal of Martin Van Buren, she was successful in increasing the API by 160 points in three years. In addition, the similar school ranking increased from a two to a10, and the statewide ranking increased from a one to a five during this time.

She attributes the success to a variety of factors but most significantly to the implementation of Professional Learning Communities.

Supt. Myrna Rivera Coté said that “her experience in a variety of assignments will be a great asset to the students, teachers and staff at Farragut.”

Ms. Carroll earned both her master’s degree in Administration and her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from Cal State Bakersfield.
