Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the candy man, Willy Wonka, and his quest to find an heir will come to life this week at the Vets Auditorium as Culver City’s Musical Theatre Summer Day Camp (ages 7-16) presents a dee-Lightful stage adaptation of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” with songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.”
The show opens Thursday at 7 p.m. and continues through the weekend with performances Friday and Saturday at 7 and a Saturday matinee at 3.
Tickets are available at the door and are $10 adults, $8 kids 14 and under, $5 seniors (65 and over). School District teachers are invited to see the show for free.
Charlie Bucket and other favorite characters tell a story that flows with music, comedy and heart. The score by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, augmented by several new songs, has been fitted into a new script adapted under the auspices of the Roald Dahl Estate.
Willy Wonka is a family show that long has delighted the sweet tooth of grownups and children. As with all shows of dee-Lightful Production Unlimited’s Camps and Workshops, the main parts have been double cast to allow more children to experience that responsibility.
dee-Lightful Productions Unlimited is dedicated to providing unique educational experiences through musical theater for children and teens, ages 7 -17.
Since 1999, the Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Community Services has sponsored dee-Lightful Productions’ theatre camps and workshops as part of its youth activities program. For more information, visit www.dee-lightful.org, email info@dee-lightful.org, or call 310.390.9062.
