On July 30, she became the third Culver City resident to pull papers, indicating her intention to compete, following Mr. Eskridge on July 20 and Steve Gourley on July 25.

Why Candidate Delayed

After driving to the County Registrar’s office in Norwalk this morning and finalizing his papers, Mr. Eskridge told the newspaper that during the nearly month that has passed, he was gauging the breadth of his support. This is his 5th run for the Board, and his record is 2 wins and 2 losses.

As a two-term former City Councilman and a state executive until Gov. Schwarzenegger took office and promptly uprooted him three years ago after a special election, Mr. Gourley easily is the most talked-about candidate.

Let the Race Begin

Less than 90 days before Culver City voters go to the polls, this School Board election — for a change — is shaping up as a muscular field front to back.

All males, too, another Culver City novelty.

Attorney C. Scott Zeidman, co-owner with his brother of a business that is the “world’s largest distributor of gaming equipment,” retired juvenile officer Roger Maxwell and management consultant Alan Elmont comprise the balance of the field.

The race is on, now formally, to succeed Stew Bubar, the longest serving and possibly most outspoken, member of the School Board, and Marla Wolkowitz. A onetime PTA mom, she will leave in early December when her term as Board President expires.
