Position Wiped Out
Based on the new City Charter approved by voters in last years municipal elections, the City Clerks position will be abolished as of next April.
The Clerks duties will be subsumed by the expanded offices of City Manager Jerry Fulwood.
Between now and the filing deadline in January, Mr. Armenta is expected to head an unusually crowded field possibly a record number of candidates.
Three Seats Open
They will be chasing three City Council chairs to be vacated by term limits.
The seats presently are occupied by Mayor Alan Corlin, Vice Mayor Carol Gross and former Mayor Steve Rose.
To date, only three-term City Councilman Albert Vera sidelined by term limits last year has publicly, but unofficially, declared he will be a candidate.
His Trademarks
Mr. Armenta, tall, genial, perpetually smiling, with an envied trademark a rich crop of black hair is no stranger to running for office.
Previously, he was a candidate for City Council and for City Treasurer before capturing the City Clerks position three years ago.
Candidates First Words
Mr. Armenta issued a statement this afternoon:
I am excited to announce my candidacy, he said.
I have a strong desire to continue serving the residents of Culver City.
