‘Disagreeing’ with the Accuser

“I would have to say I disagree with him,” said Culver City’s chief executive. “When I received documentation (of the charges) from him, I was in the process of interacting, and I was working with him on a number of fronts.” The investigation suddenly stopped “when he filed a grievance on me,” Mr. Fulwood said. “I, personally, will not put myself at risk because he has already expressed concerns about me. I don’t want the perception to be that I interfered with the process. That ended it for me. This is why I am saying I have no problem in (seeing him) go to the District Attorney or the Grand Jury. I think it’s great.” Mr. Fulwood indicated that his investigation of alleged corruption and related charges was well under way when he called it off. “I don’t want to go into a lot of detail,” he said, “but at that point, I had met with a number of parties. I was looking at two areas of Workman’s Comp that were of concern to him. Also, I was looking at his charge of non-proper action in the Police Dept., going back a number of years ago. For me, that all stopped (when the grievance was filed). At this point, I will not get back involved in any of that, unless the City Council directs me to. I would do so, expressing concern because of the claims he has made against me — and continues to make against me. Therefore, I believe I should be neutral and have whoever is investigating to investigate me, too.”
