The walk is led by biologist Robert Roy van de Hoek. He will explain the different ecosystems that are part of the Ballona Wetlands lagoons, creek,
sand dunes and salt marsh where birds are visiting on their migration flights.
Walkers are urged to bring water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing as a hedge against unpredictable weather at this time of the year.
The assembly point for the two and a half hour walk is Del Rey Lagoon Park, Pacific Avenue, Playa del Rey. To reach the park, go west on Culver Boulevard, from the end of the Marina Freeway, through the Ballona Wetlands, through Playa del Rey to Toes Beach. Turn right on Pacific. Drive past the basketball courts and picnic tables on the inland side of the street, and park in the tree-shaded parking lot.
