Making Modern Ice Cream, the Creative Way

We had houseguests for a few days, a young couple with three young children.

They spoke highly about their Vitamix machine.

They talked about making sorbet, ice cream, soups, sauces and nut butters.

They said you can throw practically anything in there and make a smoothie.  They like kale, spinach and fruits.

Often when I get excited about a product, I want to have it right away. In this case, I am taking some time. The reason is ,I have a blender. It has a setting for “liquefy.” It does crush ice cubes. I figured what I needed to do before getting more excited about the Vitamix is to try and do things in my own blender.

I will look at the recipes from Vitamix.com, try to replicate them on my own blender and see what happens.

I also will spend a whole day at Costco, watching the Vitamix demonstrations, tasting samples. Then I will know other things to try on my machine at home.

The machine is rather pricey. It sells for almost $400. Our friends say it has really been worth the price because they made lots of baby food with it, and it has saved them hundreds of dollars.

If the machine costs $400 and, say, I get 20 years out of it, that is $20 a year. Not bad for that kind of a machine

My guess is that as soon as I can save up $300, and get my wife's permission to take the other hundred from the family budget, I will get the machine, likely in a few months.

Meantime, besides hanging out at Cosco, I will go to YouTube and look at people's reactions to the different recipes they can make with this amazing machine.
