Versatile and accessible, she was a jill-of-multiple trades during her time in Culver City.

Eileen Carroll, the School District’s assistant superintendent for educational services, will retire at the end of the school term in June, the second-year anniversary of her promotion, succeeding Gwenis Laura.

When Supt. Patti Jaffe retired a year ago, Ms. Carroll applied for the position that eventually was won by Dave LaRose, a Washington state administrator who, himself, has created a hugely favorable impression across the community.

Nevertheless, Ms. Carroll played a critical role in the transition.

With aplomb and her soft-spoken manner, she smoothly supervised the controversial summertime transfer of the continuation school, Culver Park High School, from the El Marino Language School campus in Sunkist Park to a much-debated location to the rear of Farragut Elementary, adjacent to Ballona Creek.

Ms. Carroll formerly was the Farragut principal for two years.
