Re “When Stress Temporarily Defeats Serene Feelings

If you are a salesperson who works on commission and you have not yet made enough for your rent, your perspective is going to emphasize gaining a sale.

A client always picks up on this.

You will be denied the sale because you are not helping the client obtain what he or she wants. Put aside your concerns, concentrate on how to aid a client, and chances are you will make the sale.

With few exceptions, no one attains his station in life without help from work colleagues or friends. Recalling your successes, who helped you to get to where you are? It could be a job interview where the person you met really likes you, and consequently you get the job. Perhaps a friend talked to a friend who knew someone who could help you with your goal. In turn, you will help others to obtain what they want. That is the key: Helping others acquire what they want.

All of this falls under the category of self- motivation, knowing what you want, getting it. We are talking want-to’s, not have-to’s. Helping others while stoutly maintaining your focus on your objective. One other factor carves a path to success: Humility.

I have met very successful wealthy individuals. All have humility in common. On a trip from London to Los Angeles, flying Virgin Airlines, the owner of the airline Sir Richard Branson came aboard. I thought he would settle in first class.

To my surprise, he was all over the plane, 90 percent of the time in the economy cabin. While I was speaking to two girls who won a trip for passing their classes with A-pluses. Sir Branson passed by. I asked if he had a moment. He would in a minute. Entering the stewardesses area, he filled a plastic cup with water and walked all the way to the back of the plane to give a customer some water. He returned to me and asked how could he help? I explained about the two girls. Before I realized what was happening, he had kicked the mother out of her seat and sat between the two girls for at least an hour, talked about their academic successes and intended careers.

That is a visionary and who does not success to go to his head.

We all have the potential to be successful. Your goals, though, will not walk to you. It is incumbent on you to decide what you want, and tread the path.
