Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans:
Sunday's 125th anniversary celebration of the Deed of 1888 was a great success, and we thank all who joined and participated in this noble cause.
We are particularly proud of the lead guest speaker for the event, Anneke Barrie, who represented Arcadia B. de Baker's descendants. (See a PDF by clicking here, especially the last paragraph of her family’s message.)
We have great faith for the future because Anneke is passionate and focused on helping get this land back that Arcadia gave for Veterans’ use only.
We truly appreciate her grandmother, Carolina Winston-Barrie, for her long-term leadership and admire how she has groomed Anneke to accept this enormous responsibility to ensure that this gift will only be used as it was intended, for a permanent National Home for Disabled Veterans.
Carolina is a plaintiff in the ACLU lawsuit.
A follow-up on the overall event will be forwarded just as soon as we get all the photos edited. It was a terrific event with a surprise guest speaker toward the end of the afternoon. Hint, he specifically drove from Northern California for this special occasion.
