President Lamm, center, is surrounded.

The next two Saturdays will be busy days for members of the Ballona Creek Renaissance.

On Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3, the theme will be Volunteer Tree Care on the Culver Boulevard Greenway, at the intersection of Centinela Avenue.

Join the Del Rey Neighborhood Council and BCR to beautify the Culver Boulevard walking path by re-staking and removing grass and weeds from around the increasingly taller trees planted last year.

What to bring: Work gloves, hat, sunscreen, work shoes and possibly a garden tool and water in a reusable container. Some tools and water will be provided.

Watch later in the week for possible updates at www.ballonacreek.org.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9:30 to 12 noon, along Ballona Creek behind the Mar Vista Family Center, 5075 S. Slauson Ave., Culver City, south of Braddock Drive, we are planning a native garden celebration.

Join the Family Center’s  “By Youth for Youth” program, Friends of Ballona Wetlands and Ballona Creek Renaissance in welcoming a new creekside native garden.

Festivities include refreshments, a sign dedication, and SEA Lab's Traveling Tidepool exhibit, with educational activities for all ages. Click here for flier.
