Owner William Dean Singleton will make the big decision whether to lop a day off the Los Angeles Daily News.

According to plan, the Saturday edition would disappear to make way for the new weekend edition.

That's the reason for the seemingly odd Daily News decision to charge one dollar every day. Sunday editions historically have been higher priced than the daily edition.

The plan at the Daily News is to increase newsstand/news box circulation with this current  Sunday bargain price – a dollar cheaper than the Los Angeles Times’s Sunday edition…

Then they would eliminate the Saturday edition in favor of the new weekend edition at $1.50, hoping to retain readership despite the 50-cent increase for the weekend paper.

Clever idea, isn't it?

Any way you slice it, if Owner Singleton in Colorado gives the okay, then all of his suburban newspapers in the L.A. area will cut back to six days a week!

Ssshhhh.

Don't breathe a word of this hot tip to a soul.

It's supposed to be a big secret.
