On Dec. 10, 1962, 50 years ago today, the Culver City Sister City Committee officially was established by a unanimous vote of the City Council.
This afternoon, the Culver City community is invited to be a part of the ongoing history by being on the corners of Duquesne and Culver Boulevard 5 o’clock for the unveiling of the Sister Cities signpost – pointing the way to Culver City’s four Sister Cities.
This is but the first of several actions to commemorate the organization’s 50th anniversary. The Culver City Sister City Committee is excited to be able to give this amazing gift that will stand as a reminder of the importance of citizen diplomacy in this and other cities around the world.
Culver City currently has agreements with Uruapan, Mexico, that was formed in 1964; Kaizuka, Japan, with an agreement formed in 1965; Iksan City, South Korea, reaching back to 1983; and the city’s newest signed agreement is with Lethbridge, Canada, cemented in 1989.
Immediately following comments and the unveiling this afternoon, a reception in the Dan Patacchia Room hosted by the city will take place.
