Re “LaRose Taking No Chances About Third-Choice Bungalow Being Approved

As the School District pushes to get the bungalow that will be the new home of Culver Park High School ready by next week, equally new Supt. Dave LaRose, who arrived at the end of a troubled period for the continuation school, answered questions about the fitness of the portable building.

Question: Since the first two parking lot bungalows the District designated as Culver Park’s new classrooms flunked the Division of State Architect standards, will a DSA representative need to be on-site before this bungalow is approved?

“Here is what I understand. I believe the portable already is approved. But we will be working with, as we are bringing in the office space, there will be a portable space to it. In between, our hope is the image of a nice new courtyard for our students and for our staff.

“The new space, because it is new, all of that will include inspection, DSA approval, everything from the space itself, which is DSA-approved for the adult space that it is because it is for offices – also the installation, where it is located, proximity, lines and power, and all those types of things.

“A lot of the attention from an inspection…a DSA lens will be more dedicated to the fact we are bringing in a new space.

“As far as portable No. 1 (the Chosen Bungalow), the efforts around that have been the extensive cleaning, the upkeep, new carpeting and the preparation interior and exterior to make it a very positive, welcoming environment conducive to teaching and learning.”
