The miscalculation the School District made a few weeks ago in misjudging which bungalows would be suitable as the new classrooms for Culver Park High School was not nearly as costly as first suspected, according to the District.
Relatively early in the preparation stage, Asst. Supt. Ajay Mohindra said this afternoon, it was recognized that two of the three bungalows in the parking lot behind Farragut Elementary targeted as Culver Park’s new home base, starting next month, would not pass state architectural muster.
By the time the District pronounced the portables, as they are called, unfit, “less than a thousand dollars” had been invested in lumber for reframing work, Mr. Mohindra said.
The overhaul of the third and largest bungalow, which will house the continuation school in two weeks, is, naturally, a far more expensive project.
Mr. Mohindra pegged the price tag at $100,000.
This is a scant 10 percent of what officials previously estimated it would cost the District to refurbish the Adult School on Overland Avenue, and raise it to the stricter state standards for teenage students.
