CBS Television Distribution will be hosting the third annual back-to-school celebration for the children in residence at Upward Bound House, Washington Boulevard, a community-based, non-profit organization that provides housing and services for homeless children and their families.

Monday evening’s celebration at Upward Bound House’s Family Shelter starts at 6:30.

CBS Distribution employees will hand out 60 donated backpacks filled with essential school supplies for the upcoming school year to needy children.

This is the third year CBS has helped homeless children get ready for the new school year with a backpack drive at Upward Bound House.

“School can be a difficult place to go when you are homeless,” said David Snow, Executive Director of Upward Bound House. “We are grateful these kids will have the resources – and inspiration – to succeed in school and beyond.”

“The children in-residence at Upward Bound House are like any others – they need backpacks and school supplies to be successful,” said John Nogawski, President, CBS Television Distribution. “Nothing is more gratifying than seeing the kids' faces when they open their backpacks and take a look inside for the first time. Education is the most important factor in a child's success.”

Families will enjoy a dinner generously donated by California Pizza Kitchen, Extreme Pizza and Rockenwagner Bakery.

The Goal

The mission of Upward Bound House is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in Los Angeles by providing housing, supportive services and advocacy.

Since 1997, nearly 1,300 individuals – including 800 children – have graduated from Upward Bound House. They no longer are homeless. According to recent data, 6,000 children are homeless every night in Los Angeles. www.upwardboundhouse.org.
