Re “LaRose’s Strengths Matched up with District’s Soft Spots – Chardiet

What community members were saying about new Supt. Dave LaRose during last week’s informal introductory program at the School District offices:

Nancy Goldberg
, School Board meeting: “I liked Dave LaRose from the beginning, especially the candor with which he spoke, specific questions with specific answers. That is very important for a leader, to not go around issues but to face them head-on. He strikes me as an example of solid, unegotistical leadership. To me, that is invaluable. I dislike people who need to have their egos rubbed.

“He is 46 years old and coming into his prime. That is one of the main reasons I thought he was a wise choice. He is very organized. I don’t think there is anything false there.”

Scott Johnson, parent activist, environmental expert, production company owner: “I am excited that he is coming to Culver City. We have a lot of exciting things happening and a lot of good people. But getting someone whose background is from another state, should mean he brings a lot of new ideas, some diversity, new ways of looking at things.

“Of the various groups I have been involved with in different countries over the years, just when you get somebody who has not been part of the scene before, this can bring incredible new perspectives to projects. New energy, too. Somebody new comes in and says, ‘How come you are doing it like that?’ And the answer is, ‘That’s the way it always has been done.’ Changing that is the value of new people.”
