Re “Give Goldberg and Siever ‘F’s’ for Failing to Prepare

I’m not certain who letter-writer Susan Clarke is referring to when she mentions “teacher” Karlo Silbiger.

Is she referring to the School Board member who misses multiple meetings each year, generally when there is something controversial on the agenda?

It will be hard for “teacher” Silbiger to give a grade to a fellow Board member when he is absent from meetings more than the other four Board members combined.

I recall a lot of Karlo Silbiger’s campaign promises. I don’t recall the one about missing meetings to vacation.

Members of the Board of Education serve at the public’s pleasure. The Board does not meet at all in the month of August. The schedule doesn’t change. Members know that there are no meetings in August.

Responsible Board members schedule their vacations for August. Karlo Silbiger vacations in July.

It is understandable that a Board member could miss a meeting due to illness. It is inexcusable for a Board member to regularly miss scheduled meetings to vacation.

Nancy Goldberg and Prof. Pat Siever should have been better prepared. That is beyond question. At least they showed up at the meeting. The same can’t be said of board president Silbiger.
