Re “My Words Only Seem Clichéd if You Don’t Believe Them, LaRose Says”
What community members were saying about new Supt. Dave LaRose during last week’s informal introductory program at the School District offices:
Laura Chardiet, School Board member, who is 20 percent responsible for hiring Mr. LaRose:
“I am impressed by the new superintendent’s energy, by his commitment to children, by his commitment to the whole child, to every child. As an educator, one aspect that impressed me was that when we asked which program he was proudest of, he did not just name programs. He took a systematic approach, evaluating programs, whether they worked for children, who they worked for and how they worked for them. Then he evaluated the success of the programs and the reasons. He did all of this in detail. It was not just like a one-size-fits-all approach. His thorough descriptions were far above the way we heard other applicants express themselves.
“We were looking for someone who would make our School District better. We felt we had a strong instructional program. (Interim Supt.) Eileen Carroll has done an excellent job. We have excellent teachers and administrators. Instruction is not our weakness. Areas we felt we needed to support more were operations, maintenance, capital improvement projects and our CTE (Career in Technical Education) program. The district he worked for in Washington was recognized statewide for its CTE programs. We felt he was going to support the areas we were weakest in.”
