[Editor’s Note: Culver City resident Robert Rainey, 54-year-old Venice Boulevard chiropractor, was found murdered in his office last week, according to police reports. He was a member of the Fiesta La Ballona Committee.]

Robert Rainey, who led a running group that meets in front of Vets Auditorium a few days a week, took the lead on chairing the Fiesta La Ballona Run to the Hill, Sunday, Aug. 25, 9 a.m., as a part of the Fiesta health-and-fitness lifestyle morning activities. He brought energy and passion to organizing a healthful activity that would provide a rewarding experience for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities in the 2½-mile jog to the top of the Baldwin Vista Scenic Overlook.

He was going to defray the cost of refreshments and commemorative tee-shirts for the participants.

He designed the course to safely get the runners and walkers to the Overlook from where they would return to the front of the Vets Auditorium by foot or by a shuttle bus parked on Jefferson Boulevard.

Mr. Rainey personified the healthful lifestyle the Fiesta La Ballona Activities Committee encourages at the annual fair. The committee will work with the local running group to conduct the run in the memory of Mr. Rainey with a brief dedicational service at the top of the Scenic Overlook hill. The run coincides with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, held Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Beer and Wine Garden.

The Culver-Palms YMCA, Jazzercise, LA Fitness and Culver City Recreation Dept. instructors will lead dance and movement classes at the Fiesta La Ballona main stage both mornings.
