“It will be incorporated into posters, as seen here, along with flyers, business cards, stationery, stamps, shirts and other marketing materials displaying the City of Culver City logo and Parks, Recreation & Community Services Dept., said marketing chairperson Steve Gumplo.
Community members are invited to view more of the marketing collateral and to help plan the city’s largest annual event at the next general meeting, next Tuesday night, from 7 to 8:30 in the Iksan Room at the Vets Auditorium.
Vendor chairperson David Benson said he has requests from 30 vendors and expects more to pour in over the next six weeks.
Budget finances remain on track, noted budget chairperson Susan Deen.

Shuttles and Culver CityBus Lines will offer rides from designated parking areas and local neighborhoods into Fiesta La Ballona, as suggested by Parks and Recreation Commissioners Marianne Kim and Catherine Yanda, to provide the most extensive transportation system ever for the annual event. Tour de Fiesta cyclists will finish at Culver City’s longest bike row, said Culver City Walk ‘n Rollers Jim Shanman.
Jugglers, mimes, magicians, and unicyclists will perform on the grounds while the largest percentage in years of homegrown performers in bands will entertain, featuring hits from the ‘50s to the present, entertainment chairperson Ronnie Jayne said.
The Fire Dept will run the muster-and-bucket brigade, service clubs will battle in outdoor games, the Boy Scouts will conduct a Screenland Scoutarama, the girl scouts will celebrate their 100th anniversary, and the YMCA will lead healthy lifestyle activities, said activities chairperson Elliot Heffler. LA Fitness, YMCA and Jazzercise will conduct morning fitness classes Saturday and Sunday, said fitness subcommittee chairperson Kathleen Kepfer.
Fiesta La Ballona will host a collection of vintage Culver City service cars and bikes not seen together for decades, notes Screenland A’s founder Steve Newton. The Culver City Historical Society will name its “Madrina of the Year,” and the Fiesta La Ballona committee will tap the Grand Marshal, said Karen Coyle.
The acclaimed Aqua Lilies will perform at the grandest aquacade in years, highlighted by a Culver City High School vs. Beverly Hills High water polo match, said plunge supervisor Diego Cevallos.
Clinics, contests and exhibitions by state and national champion tennis and paddle tennis players from Culver City will highlight Tennis Fest on the Vets courts, Recreation Dept. tennis instructor Michael Lanahan said.
Culver City recreation leaders will lead the new Family Fun Zone, said recreation supervisor Dan Jassim. It will feature penny carnival, crafts, contests, Disney stage, and dance lessons by the Culver City Teen Center’s most celebrated performer Darrell Whitaker, according to teen coordinator Arames White. The Pokey will jail youngsters for the first time in years, said city historian Julie Lugo Cerra.
Raising funds for Culver City parks and playgrounds, sponsor chairman Marcus Tiggs has lined up local and regional sponsors.
With the support of schools, community groups, businesses, agencies and individuals, we hope to make Fiesta La Ballona, Aug. 24-26 at Vets Park, a fun family experience as it has been each year, since 1951, attracting 20,000 guests.
