Re “At a Modest Speed, Board Edges Slightly Closer to a Call

I just read your article about the proposed policy discussion at (last night’s) School Board meeting, and I think you missed one key point: The proposed policy changes (as written in the agenda for the meeting) do not address the issue of parent-funded workers who are not CCUSD employees.

The policy outlines constraints on “school-connected organizations”, but it is not a step (even a small one) towards resolving the issue you discuss in your article. It really says nothing at all about that.

Ari Noonan comments:
The story attempted to make the very distinction you cite. In designing last night’s agenda, the School Board, unsure of its footing or its strategy, mysteriously avoided the main point of contention that has roiled the community for the last 2½ months – how to treat parent-funded volunteers at campuses other than El Marino Language School. I agree that the secondary matter debated last night by the School Board did nothing to resolve the crisis that pits deeply involved parents against the School District. If a burglar is attempting to break in your kitchen door, you don’t run to the other end of the house and seek to secure the front door. That is what the School Board did last night about parent-funded volunteers.
