Re “Goldberg Speaks on El Marino, but ‘I Need Clarification’”

School Board member Nancy Goldberg's erudition was certainly displayed yesterday on these pages as she used the word “temerity” to describe fellow Board trustee Laura Chardiet.

Although I was never fortunate to have even one delectatious semester of Ms. Goldberg's 41 years of teaching experience, my high school English teacher did include “temerity” in our vocabulary list.

Why doesn't Ms. Goldberg simply call Ms. Chardiet “unreasonable” or “foolhardy”? Then again, as Mr. Noonan points out, Ms. Goldberg is a sly one.

Of course there are policies and procedures the Board has to follow. Of course there needs to be staff research into the continued use of adjuncts at El Marino Language School.

Ms. Chardiet, has solidly placed herself on the side of the parents (i.e. voters who elected her). Maybe she cannot stop the union steamrolling over the El Marino adjunct program because she might in the Board minority, but make no mistake about it, voters will remember who was on their side and those who were not.
