Re “Seizing Initiative, Chardiet Rocks Board, Thrills Parents,” “Hamme Talks About When and How She Knew About ALLEM,” and “Sahli-Wells Tells Why Both Elections Should Be Merged

Keep standing up for us parents, Laura Chardiet. We have your back.

However, it is not likely Debbie Hamme, President of the ACE union, will retreat.

It's like Forrest Gump says, “Union is as Union does.”

For Hamme, It Was About Timing

From George Morton

Regarding the School Board’s role in the El Marino-Ace union controversy, let us call it like it is:

Debbie Hamme of Ace first “knew” about the ALLEM program right after she got two solid pro-union votes on the School Board.

Why Merging Elections Is a Bum Idea

From Paul Ehrlich

Random thoughts as I read the election consolidation proposal of Meghan Sahli-Wells:

1. In California there are about 1,000 school districts. In virtually no cases are the city and school board elections performed at the same time.

2. This was discussed at the time of the recent Culver City Charter revisions. Pros and cons were discussed and weighed. The idea of merged elections was soundly rejected.

3. I do not think that any City Councilmen would want to have their terms cut off by six months to match the School Board term so that a very minor amount of money might be saved.

4. To merge the elections would require another election just to change the City Charter. More unneeded costs.

5. The city's current red ink is about $4,500,000 per year. Her estimated savings of $40,000 spread over 4 years or $10,000 is incredibly insignificant.

I would rather like to hear her serious proposals to close the $4,500,000 gap.
