Dateline Dayton – What a weekend it was. Friday evening we went out for dinner, which for some reason took forever, and Pauline didn’t even get what she ordered after a very long wait. At least the manager took care of her meal.
After finishing dinner, we were on our way to see Jersey Boys, on stage at the Schuster Center downtown. Although we had agreed to make Christmas practical, with me giving Pauline a new sweeper and her sewing a few of my clothes that needed mending, along with a new sweater, I felt she deserved something special. Thus, the tickets. I was pleased she took me along. She could have asked anyone.
The production has been in Dayton since Jan. 17 and will end this Sunday. By the way, due to some big game on that day, you can purchase tickets at 40 percent off. On Friday evening, a fair number of seats were empty. I turned to Pauline and said, “Wonder what it’s like during the week?”
The show was great. Outstanding music. The production lasted two hour and forty-five minutes. The audience was enthusiastic during the entire show, applauding, whistling, even yelling, none of which was disruptive to the performance. These fellows belted out the songs with enthusiasm, which made for a great evening of entertainment. I highly recommend the production, especially if you’re able to see it in a venue as lovely as the Schuster Center.
We started Saturday with breakfast. Also having breakfast at the same restaurant was David from the Frame Shop. Therefore I was able to ask about my sign that he has been working on – loosely using the term “working” – for the last three years. It was mounted, he told me. Progress is being made, according to him. I asked if the shop was open. I needed pins to put in a picture. It was. Whew. So we stopped and took care of that on our way to our granddaughter’s soccer game.
Scoring Ain’t Everything
This was Madison’s first game of the indoor season. She has played (also using “played” loosely) outdoor soccer for a few seasons, showing little interest in the game. I believe she was there for the snacks.
What a change this year. She was in there hustling, charging the ball. She played a great game, assisting in one of their six goals, although the score ended 5 to 0, because they quit counting once a team is up by five.
From the game it was onto the market for delicious sugar cookies. Unfortunately they were out. Did purchase some treats from the Humane Society for Jake.
A Point to be Made
At 2:30 we were headed for our other granddaughter’s basketball game, across town. It was exciting. Julia scored five points, including an outstanding three-pointer. They lost the game by one point, the final score being 6 to 5.
Afterward, we headed to church. Our granddaughter’s school was having a fish fry. We had not attended one yet this season. Prior to church, we met my cousin in the parking lot. He and his daughter sat with us in church and we sat with them at the fish fry, catching up on the happenings on his side of the Hennessey family.
Sunday was our day of rest, with the exception of a visit to the meat market and going for a pizza. I did start to work on our taxes since it is that season also.
Happy Groundhog
The groundhog saw his shadow yesterday, so we’re going to have six more weeks of winter, as if it makes any difference. I must say, so far, we’ve had a mild winter. Little snow but lots of rain. Being Ohio, all this can change later today.
