Numerous Reasons Mrs. Siegel Is Wrong About Impeachment

Letters to the EditorLetters

I read Helen Miller’s letter and Adele Siegel’s letter (See “Letters,” Oct. 18) concerning the City Council agendizing impeachment.

I agree with Mrs. Miller’s opinion. Mrs. Siegel’s opinion is that impeachment is a serious undertaking and should be initiated at the local level. She believes this is where the voices of the American people should be heard.

A Vote for Maxwell

Regardless of our past history, scientific technology just oozed along. But, during the 20th century, useful and a different style of inventions developed that made tremendous strides to ease basic daily necessities, plus more time to relax.

Also, at the same time, more horrific inventions were created to cause fear amongst most people
who claim that the war is the answer.

Of Gourley, Sudden Endings and Tact: He Did the Right Thing

Letters to the EditorLetters

Re “Gourley, ‘Showing Leadership,’ Summarily Calls Halt to School Board Forum,” Oct. 19:

I, for one, appreciated the fact that the evening's events were called to a halt at the forum for School Board candidates last Thursday night.

It was exceptionally well-run, and I really liked the fast pace, with many questions and responses limited to one minute.

The End of Champion, ‘Apparently,’ I Would Say

Letters to the EditorLetters

[Editor’s Note: Regarding the following letter, Culver City’s year-long Exclusive Negotiation Agreement with the developer Bob Champion is scheduled to be formally terminated at tonight’s 7 o’clock City Council meeting at City Hall.]

I return after a two-week vacation to discover that several things had happened in the city while I was gone.

An Attempt to Quell the Storm Over Drop in Enrollment

Letters to the EditorLetters

Thanks for the article yesterday (“Lin Howe Forum Fails to Loosen 5-Way Logjam for First Place”) on the School Board Candidates Forum.

The turnout at Lin Howe School was much smaller than I had anticipated. Maybe folks get all their info from online sources.

I Beg to Differ.

Regarding Adele Siegel’s letter (“Message to the City Council: Agendize Impeachment,” Sept. 17, thefrontpageonline.com):

I would like to know why you think our City Council should vote to impeach President Bush. Our City Council governs our city, not the United States of America. It is not their job to cast such a vote.

Why It Is Appropriate for City Council to Vote Impeachment

Letters to the EditorLetters

I was very pleased to note in last week’s edition of the Culver City News that Helen Miller had taken the time to read my letter-to-the-editor (“Message to the City Council: Agendize Impeachment,” which appeared in thefrontpageonline.com on Sept. 17. Ms. Miller’s letter is reprinted below in its entirety.)

I was wondering, though, if we were talking about the same letter.

The Bush Administration, both as part of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in general, has committed serious violations of our Constitution and of our civil rights and civil liberties that constitute a systematic abuse of power.

Sizing up the Challengers for the School Board — Their Similarities

Letters to the EditorLetters

Last night was the League of Women Voters/PTA School Board Candidate Forum at Lin Howe School, and there will be another forum at Vets Auditorium on Thursday night at 7.

This election offers five very strong candidates, and it is tough to decide who to vote for. I know four out of the five running.

You can be sure I spoke to the one I didn't know at the two candidate forums I saw them all in.

Road to Hell, Road to West Washington Paved with You-Know-What

Letters to the EditorLetters

I have been a West Culver City business and property owner for 30 years.

Regarding the Upward Bound Homeless Shelter Proposal for the Sun Bay Motel on Beethoven Street and Washington Boulevard in West Culver City, there are pertinent elements I feel need to be considered:

In spite of their best intentions, how can Upward Bound assure us they will be able to place the prospective tenants in permanent housing in a span of 90 days?

Here Is the Kind of Culver City I Want to See

Letters to the EditorLetters

[Editor’s Note: Paul Madison of the Culver Alliance for Quality of Life activist group delivered this statement at last Monday night’s City Council meeting just before a revised mixed-use ordinance was, effectively, passed.]

Culver City has mixed-use fever. So do a great many other cities in this country, and there are good reasons for it.
