During my four years on the City Council, it was rare that we all agreed on anything. So I am impressed that all five of our current Council members have endorsed Andy Weissman for City Council in the April 8 election.

It’s not hard to see why Andy is everyone’s choice.

Andy Weissman comes by public service naturally. His dad Al served for years on the School Board and many other civic projects. Andy has served on most of the commissions in Culver City. He has earned endorsements of everyone from the Sierra Club to the Chamber of Commerce.

Cary Anderson is a City Council candidate who truly understands the importance of maintaining a community that’s crime-free and truly safe for our children, families, professionals and senior citizens to peacefully reside.

I recently had the opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet function at Cary Anderson’s home where loads of his friends and supporters were in attendance. These folks were just ordinary Culver City residents, like you and me, who are deeply concerned that the recent increase in local crime is due in part to the city’s less than adequate support and funding for our Culver City Fire Dept. and Police Dept. As the victim of an armed assault in Culver City just a few years ago, I hope the newly elected City Council members will decide to hire more police and fire officers to protect our community, rather than spending our hard earned taxpayer monies on less important matters.

I’m reading the campaign literature, I’m listening to the candidates and I’m reading the newspapers.

I'm confused.

City Council candidate Jeff Cooper states he founded the Bone Yard. I thought it was a group
called the Friends of the Culver City Dog Park who founded it?

I’m concerned about one person who takes credit for a group effort.

Jeff Cooper is the only City Council candidate to make the preservation of Brotman Hospital in our community a top priority. I know from personal experience that when minutes count, ready access to a hospital Emergency Room can be the difference between life and death. Two years ago, if it were it not for the heroic efforts of our Fire Dept. and the close proximity of emergency care facilities at Brotman Hospital , I would not be here today to tell this story.

Contrary to the article written by Barbara Rabinowitz on Feb. 19, the police union did not meet with all nine candidates for the City Council.

As a Parks Commissioner, I know how important Culver City’s parks are to our community. They provide recreation opportunities for children, adults and seniors. The programs available at our parks enable teenagers to engage in meaningful after-school activities. Our parks increase the value of our homes.

Andy Weissman is a former Parks Commissioner who shares my passion for our community, and especially for our parks. That is why I am pleased to support him in his campaign for City Council.

In the race for the City Council, I am thrilled that both the Culver City Firefighters Assn. and the Culver City Police Officers Assn. have endorsed Andy Weissman.

Andy’s ability to earn these endorsements shows his commitment to public safety.

In a state that is prone to natural disasters, it is important to have a City Council member who acknowledges we must be prepared and who works to keep the community safe.

Last week at the School District Office, intradistrict permits were not accepted the first day of registration due to a clerical oversight.

The problem has been rectified.

However, we are not sure how to get in touch with parents who may have tried to turn in their intradistrict permit application, yet were turned away.

Please pass this along to any incoming parents to clear up any confusion.

Our City Council will take on a whole new complexion after the April 8
election, and it is critical that we elect candidates with the experience,
knowledge and vision to keep Culver City heading in the right direction.

We believe Andy Weissman is that person.

As head of the Downtown Business Assn., he helped turn Downtown
Culver City into an exciting destination.

I am writing to give my full support to Jeff Cooper for City Council. I have known Jeff for almost 15 years, and I have served as a fellow Parks and Recreation Commissioner with him for seven years. I met Jeff when he stepped forward to help the Culver City Youth Health Center acquire some donated scales and other medical equipment. This was the beginning of learning about what a great man Jeff Cooper is.

Jeff is a man of action and a true community servant. Jeff has been involved in so many things that make Culver City the great town it is: Parks and Recreation Commission; co-founder, Culver City Dog Park; President, Culver City Exchange Club; producer, Culver City Car Show; Fiesta La Ballona; saving green space in Culver City Park; Culver City Skate Park; and much more.
