[Editor’s Note: City Councilman Jim Clarke, known as much for his humility and humor as much as his ubiquity, sent the following email yesterday.]
Seriously, did they run out of human beings to honor?
On Saturday evening, Feb. 24, the Friends of the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center will be holding their annual fundraiser Gala at the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey.
They have selected me to be their honoree.
I am very humbled for the honor but . . . hence the subject of my email.
In case you were at all worried, this will not be your typical fundraiser.
Our emcee Mike Cohen (Mr. Culver City) has promised to make this a roast, a memorable roast of yours truly. A
ll I can say is “Bring it on, Mike. I can dish it out as much as I can take it.”
Other roasters for the evening will be former Mayor Andy Weissman, former School Board member Laura Chardiet and former Exchange Club president John Cohn.
Sounds like a group of has- beens to me.
Then there is Martha Groves, the mom of my god-daughter Nora.
I have to say nice things about Martha. We have known each other for what seems like a lifetime.
I am sure she has some doozy stories to tell.
I hope you will be able to join me for what should be a fun-filled and rollicking evening.
More importantly, your participation will help to support the important work the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center is doing in maintaining the healthy lives of our Culver City kids
Now if you can’t attend but would still like to participate in my roasting, you can do so by taking out an ad in the misnamed Tribute Book.
Please no kind or flattering words or praise. (I have heard it all before.)
Give me your snarkiest and most creative insults.
I intend to pick out the best ones and read them aloud at the event for the enjoyment of all.
If you can’t do that, then say something nice about the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center and staff.
Thanks for your consideration and your support for a great cause and for helping ensure a most memorable evening.
