Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans: First, thanks to all who showed up for last Sunday's 300th consecutive Sunday Rally. The VA police's disruptive assault on our peaceful demonstration was straight out of the Communist handbook. On these sacred grounds where Veterans, dating from the Civil War, walked proudly, there now are a public dog park, public recreation park, public golf course, public botanical garden, private school playground and athletic field, a wealthy kids’ soccer field, commercial hotel laundry facilities, commercial car rental and bus lots, along with the proposed public community park and other scandalous misappropriations that have inflicted even more serious injury onto our disabled Veterans who remain homeless.

For more than a century, every generation of grateful Americans honored our war Veterans by honoring the Deed of 1888. They demanded our U.S. government provide quality housing and care for our disabled, needy Veterans. Obviously this is a mere token of indebtedness owed to our Veterans compared to the many freedoms we enjoy at the enormous expense of their selfless sacrifices.

First in a series. Veterans Park Conservancy, which is not a Veterans’ organization but a wealthy homeowner group in Brentwood, obtained an unprecedented long-term “sharing agreement” with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs to build a public park “for the enjoyment of the entire community” on a billion-dollar parcel of Veterans property … “rent free.” Meanwhile, more than 20,000 disabled, disadvantaged military Veterans have been exiled from these sacred grounds deeded 125 years ago in their sole behalf.
