My Friends, the Trees

Robert EbsenOP-ED

They are all around us — every day. Usually we do not know their names or their histories.

Birthday

Robert EbsenOP-ED

The one day of the year that whatever* I want is granted.

Open Samsung French Doors

Robert EbsenOP-ED

The pleasant salesman in the appliance department at Sears looked at the LED lights that came on when the Samsung refrigerator’s French doors were opened. “I think those lights can be turned off,” he said. We hoped so because we liked the refrigerator and because we needed the lights to go off when we opened the doors on the Sabbath.

Got a Spare?

Robert EbsenOP-ED

What if something breaks, stops working or runs empty? Do you have a spare in your closet you can immediately hook up, plug in or eat?

Belts

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I don’t buy many belts. I usually have two, possibly three, that I wear. I buy a new belt when one is in a relatively major state of disrepair.

Hobby Collage

Robert EbsenOP-ED

Did I tell you about my “hobby collage”?

It must have been about 15 years ago when I decided that I had so many hobbies that I wanted to more or less permanently honor them with a large (2’ x 3’) poster. The poster took shape over several months.

Man Plans

Robert EbsenOP-ED

Did you ever plan to get somewhere in New York City?

My wife and I intended to have a leisurely lunch visit with our cousin in New York City yesterday. That leisurely lunch visit turned out to be 15 minutes long.

Waterfall or Mosquitoes

Robert EbsenOP-ED

When you have a running waterfall, you don’t have to worry about mosquitoes. That’s because the mosquito larvae, in order to “hatch,” need a stagnant source of water — the water cannot be running.

iPhone Fun

Robert EbsenOP-ED

My wife just got an iPhone. She’s nice — she lets me play with it.

Here are some of the fun APPs I am using. Most are free. Some are 99 cents.
