Three New Happy Applications

Robert EbsenOP-ED

It’s the name of a new app I just downloaded on my iPhone. It will help me to organize my photos by providing me with time and date information about each photo I will take, and each of the 1,000 photos I have taken in the past year that show up on iPhone’s “My Photo Stream.” I have work ahead because I will need …

SCiO – I Can't Wait!

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I happened to learn about this amazing Israeli invention from an app called Kickstarter, which raised almost $3 million from people like me to prepare this device for marketing. I invested $35, and will get a SCiO T-shirt when my SCiO is shipped in March. What is it? How does it work?

Big Party Sunday

Robert EbsenOP-ED

Thank God I did almost all of the preparation for the party last week. That's because a few days ago I got a cold. I believe all the preparation I did lowered my immune system, enabling me to catch this cold. I am quite sure I will be better for the party on Sunday. What did I do for the party?

Earth, God, and Us

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I was resting in my pool this morning, thinking about where we are in this universe. It’s not the first time I have reflected on who, where, and what we are, and why we are here. This morning, however, I felt a sense of clarity about it all. Today’s thinking was not just about how we live on this little planet called Earth, not just about how our planet is probably one of many like it in the universe, and not just about how all life forms are similar. Today I caught a glimpse of …

Duhs, Nos. 64-69

Robert EbsenOP-ED

Duh No. 64: Dish Dispenser Surprise. For almost a year, I have monthly been contorting my body under the sink to unscrew, fill and then screw on the dish detergent dispenser reservoir. Last week I happened to pull off the dispenser’s plunger on top of the sink and, Duh, I realized I could …

Zip a-dee-do-dah…My New Toy

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I may be becoming a zip tie addict, but I prefer to think of myself as a zip tie champion. I go around the house and the yard looking for things to fix with zip ties. It amazes me how simple and quick these fixes are. Our traveling food cart on wheels toppled forward when loaded with food. I zip tied the upper back of the cart to the handle, and the bottom front of the cart to the plastic base. No more …

A New Granddaughter

Robert EbsenOP-ED

She is beautiful. She is one week old. She is my second grandchild. My wife and I, my in-laws, my sisters, and my mother visited the baby. We witnessed the natural outpouring of love, caring, amazement. But one very special thing is not often mentioned when …

Duhs Nos. 58-63

Robert EbsenOP-ED

For years, it has taken nearly six hours to smoke four chickens. As I was putting the cover onto the smoker this morning, I noticed something I had seen before — a gap on one side between the cover and the body of the smoker. With my rubber mallet, I tapped the side of the smoker. The gap was gone. After 3½ hours, I heard the alarm on the thermostat. I wondered why it was …

A Pillow Thing

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I have to admit it. I have a pillow thing. How many pillows do you have lying around your house? I have…count 'em…20. Well, after you count the six flat ones that I will be giving to Goodwill one day soon, that makes only 14. I think this pillow thing began 10 years ago when …
