Dateline Dayton — Currently Chanukah is being celebrated as I write this, and Christmas will be here in just over two weeks. The weather here in Ohio has turned cold and snowy, as it usually does during the holiday season.

Dateline Dayton — The past two weeks have been busy for us, with our Australian visitor, who was a delight to chauffeur and entertain, granddaughter Julia’s basketball game, which her team won, attending granddaughter Ashley’s school play and a great Thanksgiving.

Part II

Dateline Dayton — As I said last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a first-time visitor to our country from Australia, becoming his entertainment director and chauffeur for the week.

Dateline Dayton — Last Thursday, a fellow cash register collector and I made our semi-annual trip to St Charles, IL, for the Cash Register Collectors Club swap meet and meeting. Scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 2, it was well underway when we arrived at 9:45.

Dateline Dayton — Now that Election Day has come and gone, it will be interesting to see if any changes will come from the voters speaking. Apparently many are not satisfied with what is taking place in Washington and across the country.

Dateline Dayton — Since I have been doing these essays, they have always been my thoughts, comments and stories, sometimes with help from items I might have come across or research done on a particular subject matter.

Dateline Dayton — This coming Tuesday is a very important moment for our country, Election Day. It’s not just about who will be elected or what party will be in control. This day will determine what the future will hold for us, our children and, most importantly, our grandchildren.

Dateline Dayton — In November of 1977, the Hennessey family moved across town from Dayton to the suburb of Kettering. After a long search, looking at many homes we either didn’t like or couldn’t afford, we finally found our home in southeast Kettering. A great location, it is close enough to everything. In the 33 years we have lived here, there has been a lot growth, both commercial and residential.

Dateline Dayton — A few weeks ago my essays dealt with growing up in a small town in the 1950s. Continuing with that theme, I will tell you about our local dairies. So you think a dairy is a dairy? You’ve seen one, you’ve seen every kind? Going to the dairy in my day was entertainment. That was where you bought your ice cream. There was one other location for ice cream, the soda fountain in the drug store or pharmacy.
