Dateline Dayton – For Thanksgiving, our daughter and two of her children arrived from Michigan on Wednesday night. I started Thanksgiving Day with church while Pauline was at home peeling potatoes for our mid-day dinner. Due to scheduling conflicts, that time appeared to be the best option. We still didn’t have Bill, Julie and Madi because they had traveled to Cleveland to celebrate with Julie’s family.
Look at All of the Reasons You Have and I Have
Dateline Dayton – Since today is Thanksgiving Day, with all of the turmoil in our country and the world, you may wonder if there is anything to be thankful for. Sure, there are useless killings, hunger, abortion, a dysfunctional government, Obamacare. Even with these and more problems, there are plenty of reasons to be grateful.
Thankfully, My Problems Are Minor
Dateline Dayton – Last week was a busy one, starting with the Cash Register Collectors Club meeting and swap meet in St. Charles, IL. I brought my friend Milton, from Australia, back to our house, where he stayed for several days. After breakfast, Pauline and I took him to…
Stand Against Armenta Is Disappointing
By J.E. Brockman. Your website has always been a source of solid reporting and even wisdom, in my experience. I was shocked to see you taking up the cause against Christopher Armenta in the state Assembly race. Instead, why aren't you…
Perhaps This Collection Will Register with You
Dateline Dayton – Yesterday I left for St Charles, IL, to attend the Cash Register Collectors Club meeting and swap meet. My friend Howard traveled with me, as usual. This time we needed to leave a day earlier because the club’s swap meet was early this morning. I took a few items to sell, but I expected little activity. Probably is the wrong attitude.
Made in the Shade in the Balmy Bahamas
Dateline Dayton – Recounting the first part of our Caribbean cruise last week, I should have said that we spent Monday on Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay, the Bahamas, not at sea. We found a shady spot beneath a tree, and relaxed the whole time on the island. Even though the water was warm, I only walked through it. One month after our 51st wedding anniversary, Pauline swam, though. did go for a swim.
Smooth Sailing for Our Holiday at Sea
Dateline Dayton – Back from our cruise, the best we ever have taken, and here are some memorable moments. No, there wasn’t any unusual excitement. The ship did not get stuck on rocks. Nor was it adrift for days. The power was on the entire time. The toilets worked. No one was left behind, and no one went…
Hey, Buddy, You Should Need a License to Do This
Dateline Dayton – You may tire of me being on a soapbox about the need for licensing to have children. All you need do is stop reading this essay.
I have been thinking about the kinds of licenses already required: Attorney, accountant, boating, to drive, a car itself, carrying a concealed weapon, for your dog – but not for having a child. Doesn’t that speak well of us?
Looking Forward to Cruising the Caribbean
Dateline Dayton – Last Friday night we met the friends with whom we were going to have dinner at Tony’s restaurant two weeks earlier. However, that was the day Pauline ended up in the hospital. This time we were meeting them at the Dayton Women’s Club for dinner and a bingo fundraiser.
I Have a Few Questions for Washington
Dateline Dayton – Our government owes us truthful answers. First, the Syrian mess. Why didn’t President Obama initially suggest a diplomatic resolution to the problem instead of saying he was going to bomb Syria?
